Appropriate day for performing Pind Daan
The ritual of Pind Daan is done throughout the year on the banks of Gaya, but there is a specific time which is considered to be the most auspicious. Occasions in the Amawasya when there is Krishna Paksh during the months of the auspicious PitriPakshmela held for 18 days are the most significant days. People in large numbers gather here to perform these rites.
Types of Pind Daan
There are various sets of rites which are supposed to be performed depending on the type of death.
Tripindi Shradh:
It is done when someone has died unnaturally. So, this becomes very important for someone in the family to perform this shradh for the salvation to the deceased ancestor.
Narayan Bali Shradh:
Narayan Bali means unnatural/ abnormal death like accident/suicide/Natural calamities or death by fasting, by animals, by arson, by a curse, by cholera or any unusual disease, by snake bite, struck by lightning, murder etc.
Naag Bali Shradh:
After the deadth of any people, when soul of the People enters in Naag Yoni and they take the shape of Snake or Naag,and comes in snake shape in the dreams of his family member, then Naag Bali Shradh is done.
